Disney, one of the best-known brands in America and the force behind ABC, ESPN and the Marvel movies, will pay $52.4 billion for Fox's TV and movie studios, cable entertainment networks and international TV businesses. Fox is behind entertainment juggernauts such as the X-Men franchise, "The Simpsons," FX Networks and National Geographic. Under the terms of the deal, Fox broadcast networks, the Fox News and Fox Business channels, and several other properties will be spun off as a separate company. Robert Iger, the chairman and chief executive of Disney, will continue with the combined firm through 2021. |
